A review on forming technologies of fibre metal laminates

Fibre metal laminates (FMLs), as a class of hybrid material taking advantages both metals and composites, have shown great promise lightweight structural materials in the transportation industry. Accordingly, manufacturing technologies FMLs are attracting increasing research interests. This review emphasises developing forming FML components, with other aspects related to being briefly introduced. First, we provide an overall historical background recent developments FMLs, their classifications, sheet fabrication processes, disadvantages. Then, various introduced detail, particular focus on stamp forming, which is considered be most promising approach for high-volume production complex-shaped components. Furthermore, deformation modes defects analysed challenges encountered existing thoroughly discussed.
